Comments out my image

I have 3 images in the /images/banner/ directory. I am trying to display them using plain ol html <img src="/images/banner/88-31.png"> BUT when the page is processed and I look at the source it comes out to be <!-- src="../beta/images/banner/88-31.pn-->. I have no clue on why this is hapening. It happened on my test server and my production server. Both are set up differently so i know its not a problem there. Any help would be great...im seriously puzzled

using plain html? Something is getting in and parsing the file and replacing certain bits of text with other bits. Maybe you could show your code or explain some more...
