text is output without line breaks

I have made a simple news script that uses a database to store the news. It works well except that you add in the text you want to be posted and it will add it to the database, WITH all the line breaks you put in. But when it comes to output it to the screen it will not include the line breaks and will just make a long line of text.

example;

blah blah blah
blah blah blah

blah blah.

output;

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

so does anyone know how to echo line breaks to the screen?

any help is greatly appreciated.
