Mysql user mgmt.

I use a mysql db on my php page, and obviously need to connect to it.
I am currently using the root account to connect, but know that this gives potential hackers complete access to my db.
How do I create another account and what priveliges do I give it, I need to read and also write to my db.
Can anyone help?

Read the manual sections on creating a user and on creating a database and the associated grants needed.

It is really quite simple.

Which tools are you using to maintain your database?

Have you used phpMyAdmin? If not, I encourage you to check it out: http://phpwizard.net/projects/phpMyAdmin/

Its so easy to use that even a 10-year old could propably set up a database with it. 🙂

With it, you can add new users in no time..
