PLEASE PEOPLE HELP, FTP CONNECT - easy question

for example i have ftp ftp.ttt.lv

on this ftp is a dirctory, why ftp_connect doesnt allow me connection to ftp with remote dir ????

something like this

ftp_connect("FTP_NAME/DIRECTORY");

if ftp_connect doesnt really do this thing, so what decision i must find ???
