Thumbnailing -- Alernatives to GD?

Hi,

I'm trying to get a thumbnailing solution for a client, whos ISP only supports GD1.6. Versions before 2.0 only produce 256-color jpegs. It's not quite cutting it for us, and I have no way to upgrade the GD support in the PHP.

Does anyone know of an alternative to GD that could be used to create true-color jpegs?

Depending on what is installed, you might be able to shell out and use Imagemagick's convert utility:

Try Xnview, it has a nice command line utility called nconvert
that I use.
