Error 500 premature end of script

I installed apache and php3 on windows XP and I get no problem until I call a page .php3
Then I get an error:

error 500 possible miscounfiguration....

I looked in the error logs and I see:

Premature end of script c:/php3/php.exe

I controlled several times the httpd.conf and everything seems ok. Is a problem of XP (I installed apache and php in the same way I did on win. '98)

Please give me some help...

Out of curiosity, why are you using php3? I think I remember seeing this elsewhere and it turned out that php3 was indeed the problem. If for some reason you need to use php3, let me know and I'll see if I can figure something out.

Ho!!

Is it better if i install php4 instead of php3?? I used to work with 3 and I didn't want change version... because it may cause troubles... but let me know if I could better install php4.

It is better if you use PHP4.1.x at least. Probably better if you use 4.2.2 (not 4.2.3 yet).

Just out of question, dotwebbie, why did you not suggest using 4.2.3? I've got this version and I havent had ant problems. Is there a problem that you have come across?

Sorry, you posted before I did. :p Yes, there is a reason I said that. For one, I and others have come across the problem of not getting php.ini to be read. It reads some things from php.ini that are default and others I have no clue where it pulled them from. It also has some problems with arrays apparently.
