time taken to execute script + database query

Im trying to implement some code into my script so right at the bottom it will echo the total time it took to parse the whole file. Just Wondering if there is an easy way to do this? ive seen it done on some scripts before.

There is a benchmarking command in SQL...

BENCHMARK(count,expr)
The BENCHMARK() function executes the expression expr repeatedly count times. It may be used to time how fast MySQL processes the expression. The result value is always 0. The intended use is in the mysql client, which reports query execution times.

I am unsure how to apply it to a select or update statement.

I think the point is, make your program run a insert and then delete command 50000 times, and count the number of seconds it takes to complete.

Repeat 100 times.

Take an average.

i like to use PEAR Benchmarktimer to do benchmarking,

it is essentially a class written around small array that keeps track of calls to microtime ( as mentioned in the previous post by jeremuck )

Try this at the top of your page:

$time=microtime();
?>

and this at the bottom:
<?php
$end=microtime();
$now=$end-$time;
$how_long=number_format($now,4);
echo ("Page Delivered in $how_long seconds");
?>
