check if a directory is empty...

hey,

does anyone know a way to check if a folder on the server is empty or not?
I searched the PHP manual, but couldnt find anything. Using the filesystem to list files, I need to check if the folder has any contents or not.....

any ideas?!

Instantiate a directory object and count the file.

I cannot recall if it will show . and ..<EOT>

thanks... I've been looking at the manual:

... what I want to do is to remove the Directory from a link .... but it wont let me do it, if it's got stuff in it.

Using the rmdir() function... it lets me remove the DIR if it's empty.....

has anyone got any code which will delete the folders with files in?! The code on PHP.net didnt seem to work!

hey bernouli,

I tried

exec("rm -rf /grr");

to delete the folder "grr" Which I creates as CHMOD 0777.
Nothing happened... no error messages, nothing.. it just didnt delete the folder!!

Any more ideas?!

Heres another question..... Imght post this in a new topic unlesss you guys can help me....

I have used the mkdir() to create folders using HTTP method on my webserver.... the problem is that when I try to access these using FTP, I cannot open them, or CHMOD them... the error message is "permission denied".

Why cant I access file uploaded or folders created using the HTTP method??

if (exec("rm -rf /grr")) echo "deleted";
else echo "not deleted";

when not deleted, check if the path you are giving is correct

nah, still dont work.....

this is the PHP file I am using

if (exec("rm -rf /test")) echo "deleted";
else echo "not deleted";

?>

called "delete.php"

the folder "test" was created and CHMOD to 0777. It is also in the root dir (httpdocs)..

so I cant see what else is wrong!!
