Make variable from web-ouput

Hello,

Is it possible to make a variable
from the output of a webpage?

Ex:
The webpage output is: 'test'
Then I want the variable ($var), to be 'test' also

I have a webpage:

<html><script src="http://www.foobar.com/wie/wie.php?user=BassieBulk">
</script></html>

It produces one line of text. Infact it shows the online users.

Now I want a variable on my page (http://www.foobar/index.php) to be that content.
My question was if it's possible to make a variable out of this line of text.

ok, i'm kinda getting this, you want to pull in some javascript based on the user agent (like IE) and re-use the contents as a variable on the page.

the only thing i can think of is using forms and capture that content as a hidden value

but i don't think this will accomplish what you are trying to do

The problem is that I can't put the <script>-tags inside this part:

function moveout(which){
//which.style.background='#808080'
if (document.getElementById)
document.getElementById("boxdescription").innerHTML='Online: xxx'
else
boxdescription.innerHTML=' '
}

I want the online users to show up after 'Online: '.
At the place where the x's are now.
I tried putting <?=$online ?> in place, which worked,
if I declare <?php $online="test" ?> before this (javascript) function.

What I want is this var ($online) to be the output of this:

<script src="http://www.foobar.com/wie/wie.php?user=BassieBulk">
</script>

Try it opening the site in the background, using sockets or something.
