saving a file created with Header("Content-type: application/vnd.ms-word");

I am using the following code

$date = date("y").date("m").date("d").date("H").date("i").date("s");
Header("Content-type: application/vnd.ms-word");
Header("Content-Disposition: filename=file$date.doc");

to output a table to microsoft word. How could I then save this newly created file?

you can't. that's up to the user.

The header you send tells the user's computer to respond a certain way. At that point, everything is on the user's PC, which you as the server don't have access to.

what are you trying to do?

create a word file on the server or their's?

if the server, why? what is it's purpose?

This is what I need to do:

I am building a bug tracker for a project management web site. A project manager needs to periodically create a report from the the database in such a manner that each time the report is created a version of it is saved on the server so others can access the report through a link sent to them in an email. As you can see above, I orginally thought of just outputting the dynamic report, which I have already created, to a word document, so that we can store the different versions. Apparently that doesn't work so any ideas would be appreciated.

there are a couple of other questions around here regarding Word.
Word is a beast.
In the General Help forum, there is a guy using excel... you can find several libraries/functions to output to excel.

You could also just generate some static HTML.
I understand that Word does play nicely with HTML... meaning it can import it fairly nicely.

You could just generate a text file.

You'll have better luck with excel than Word.
