why does this give me

\apache\htdocs\prodacc\downloads.s620invoices.xls.zip

the dot before "s620invoices" won't go away.

Either you use:
"/path/$file.zip"
or
"/path/".$file.".zip"

the first option gives:

c:\progra~1\apache~1\apache\htdocs\prodacc\downloads$name.zip

the second option gives:

unexpected '\"'

any ideas?

Use either method (a) or (b) below:

$path = '\\apache\\htdocs\\prodacc\\downloads\\\\\\';

$a = $path . $name . '.zip';

$b = "$path{$name}.zip";

Regarding the \ at the end of $path, the first escapes the second so the second doesn't escape the last single quote. The use of {braces} is optional in $b.
