need sql help

im making a forum and i was wondering when it asks me my username....where do i get the user name?

...you make one up? A username could be a nickname, a real name, etc.

Programming wise... you might want the names to be stored in a database after users register. Then you match the name inputted with one from the database.

why would u be in doubt if you were making it up? do i have to get some sort of sql program? im new also....and how do i create database? is that just my main dir on my site?

Ahh... I thought you were 'writing a forum' from scratch.

So, you're installing a board right? Contact your host, ask them if they could give you the database username, the database password, and the database name that you can install your forum onto. Once they get back to you, you can install your new board.

You will need mysql (or another database) installed on your host.

Well.. where are you putting the board? On your domain right? Who do you pay for space on that domain? Those are the people you should ask. Just send a trouble ticket to them.
