Slow Deleting from DB ... help.

I have a db of word occurances for a search engine and it is 1 million rows with two unsigned integer columns. one column has a word id and the other is the item id. Searching it and inserting to it is fine, but when I try to delete a certain item id fromt he db it is REALLY slow. Any thoughts?

How are you deleting it? Command line or phpmyadmin?

nm, we indexed the column correctly and it's much faster now.
