What you think is the most professional way to perform online credit card transaction

What do you think is the easiest, and most professional way to do online credit card transactions? I do not want to use pay pal, as it is no professional enough for an online business.

Remember, that i have no control over what extensions are on, so cybercash is out

A lot of banks have systems you can sign up for. You need to get approved for a online business account then they provide you with scripts (in almost every language, in our case) that you can use on your site to manage transactions (and everything is deal with by the bank). It costs, money of course, and you are required to purchase an ssl certificate from verisign or geotrust etc. Moneris was the one that my clients were using, but I didn't set it up so I don't know how nice it is to use.

No need for the SSL license. Just get a merchant account for the cards that you want to accept and use a company like NetBilling. For the actual credit card part of the transaction you use their servers and don't have the added liability of having any of that data sent to your server. I believe NetBilling might even be able to help with the setup of the merchant account.

I use: http://www.paysystems.com/. They don't charge a montly fee, gateway fees etc. They also have an easy sign up and daily summaries emailed to you. I've been very, very pleased with the costs. I researched many institutions and fee schedules and went with them. Hope they accomidate your needs.
