simple include question-please!`

hi all,

I am doing a very simple include using php. I have the include coded like this in a layout file:

<? include 'includes/mydocument.php';?>

And this works nicely for my purposes. The content from 'mydocument.php' is put where i specify the include...

However, lets say that 'mydocument.php' has one block of text i want included on one place (in my layout file) and another block of text that i want included somewhere else.

I do not know what code to put on both the 'mydocuments.php' file to differentiate between blocks and i don't know how to modify the include code to put each block where i want.

can anyone help?

Why don't you use divs and css? That way, you can place the blocks wherever you want on the page.

I still don't know how to call one block from the include file and place it in the <div> tags (which i am using).

for example:

one block of text from mydocument.php

a whole bunch of html formatting stuff

the other block of text from my document

i have all of the layout (html, css) coded, i just need to know how to extract block one and block two from the include...

You can output them to variables and then print them later.

$block1 = '<img src="header1.jpg">';
$block2 = '<img src="image1.jpg">';
$block3 = '<img src="header2.jpg">';
$block4 = '<img src="image2.jpg">';
?>

<html stuff here>

<? echo $block3 ?>

<more html stuff here>

<? echo $block4 ?>

couldn't you also use a
function() also, and then call the function it in the script?? its just a question that arrised from my very tired mind...

Yes this seems to be what I need, but how would I then mark the blocks in the include file?

I am assuming I would need to put code in the include file to distinguish the blocks of text that would be block1, block2, etc.

sorry i am just not getting this, funny thing is i have done this with asp but this particular procedure was more documented...i can't seem to find anything about it in php!
