IP Blocking & PHP Caching

Hi guys,

I would like to know of it's possible to stop php pages from being cached by a web browser, but mainly I would like to know the following.

I am seeking the information on how to create a modular IP blocking script, I think I should use an include to make it modular but I am unsure of the code and how to do it because I only wish to block a partial IP (the website I am designing needs to be run in a intranet only, not accessible externally to the department of the university I work for). This should be done in an if and else if statement so that I can output a "sorry you cannot access this page" message and the proper pages will appear if the IP address is allowed.

Could anyone help me please, I'm almost a complete beginner.

A simple script should be:

if (eregi("192"),$REMOTE_ADDR)

die("Permission denied!!!");

This will block all IPs that contain 192

But what I'm trying to do is stop people that dont have the first 2 blocks of IP numbers from getting access to the site not block people with unspecific blocks. Like a if IP doesnt start with XXX.XXX then die and print unauthorised access, and if it does then show the page.

I'm not trying to block a specific IP address im trying to allow certain IP address that start with XXX.XXX access and any other that doesnt meet that criteria to die on them.

Will that work in the way of a phrase string match, or will it just allow those with the individual block matches? like the numbers in one or the other block, it needs to start with those two blocks exactly.

But a drawback of doing this is that: it might be kinda "unfair" to those who are using dynamic ip.

No, that script will block everyone else except our internal computers at our university.

Our university has dial up capability in which it asigns a dynamic IP that starts with those two numbers when the dial up machines connect, externally from the network, so in fact we only allow students to view the internal website, the external which is basically a promo website to 'sell' the course (journalism studies) to the public, but we dont want anyone to access the internal website that is outside of the university network, because of the nature of the information we put up there. It is for students eyes only.

Yes I know that, my intention was to make it modular as stated above, certain files will be required to have this and other files will not, it would take a bit of explaining but we are only alloted a certain amount of space on our universities main web server, so we have to on occassion link to objects/files on our own departments web server, plus its limited, no php just html etc, we have the freedom of php mysql etc on our webserver, in fact it's what I'm sat at now =]
