Im still having problems with templates...

Im still having problems with templates, or maybe im just thick!

So all that a template does is sit there and wait for a page to be passed to it, and then it reads in another page and then searches the first page for tags, and then matches the tags on the second page and then replaces them on the first page with the data from the second page? am i right?

does any one know of a really easy and not hard to understand template tuorial or an example of one to download??

Please help because im either going mad or am in need of sleep.

Pink Goblin has a simple template system that uses a single class.
It sounds like it'd be exactly the sort of thing you're talking about and is pretty easy to wrap your head around.
