MySql Installation

Hello. I am sorry if this has already been discussed....as I am sure it has. I tried to to use the searching tools, but to no avail.

Can someone please direct me to a site that explains installing a MySQL DB on a Windows XP Pro machine?

And please pleasedont type "www.mysql.com"

Download the BINARY installation at:

www.mysql.com/downloads/download.php?file=Downloads/MySQL-3.23/mysql-3.23.53-win.zip

For XP, you will need to download and install SP1 from Microsoft first.

Thanks, but what I wanted to know is "HOW" to install it. I ran the installer and it worked good, but how do I get it to talk to PHP?

Do you want to know how to create the database?

You'll need to run the mysql comand and get to the mysql prompt.

Start >> Run >> %installpath%/mysql.exe

This will open a dos window with the mysql server running. Create and manage your databases as per the docs.

Windows installation of MySQL isn't tricky at all. Just run the installer and you're done. You can verify that MySQL is up by running mysql or winmysqladmin from the install path or simply telnet to port 3306 on the machine. If it's working you should get a message about access denied or bad handshake.

Yep it seems as if I got it up and running

Click here to see a snapshot of the DB running.....I think LOL

Also is WinMySQL how I access the DB now? I know with our website, I have to use PHPmyADmin via a browser

WinMySQL does not have a whole lot of features. The way to access the databases is from the command line mysqlinstallpath\bin\mysql or the less preferred way is through PHPmyAdmin.
