Using includes for external pages/sites?

I often use includes to pull material from other sites, but this is the first time I had to install PHP.

I congured the 'include_path' correctly to allow includes form my server, but how do I configue to include a remote site. (i.e. include "http://www.yahoo.com"; )

I know it's possible, I use it all the time.

Perhaps there is someway to distinguish betwwen realative and absolute.

Modify your PHP.INI file to reflect:

allow_url_fopen = On

This should do the trick.

Thanks. I checked, and that is already on. There must be something fancy with 'include_path' that I'm missing.

Any other ideas?

What Versions of OS and Apache, PHP, etc. are you using? Windows Servers do not allow "offsite" including as of the current stable build of PHP.

I'm using Windows Server 2000.

I guess that answers my question. Any workaround?

Not a real clear workaround for this... depending on your application IE allows IFRAME tags that could pull your offsite content into an "invisible" frame within your page, however it only works with IE browsers.

You could always do a frame but a little 90's for me. I have been working on some workarounds for that myself but with no great luck.

The upcoming version of PHP claims to do away with this problem so you may be better off waiting.

Me again. Just a quick question since you confirmed that Windows Servers won't allow external server includes.

Does the same thing apply to fopen() ? I'm trying to fopen a dynamically generated xml file which resides at another IP.

Yes, unfortunately. The FOPEN is the culprit.
