How to make php.ini file work

Dear all,

Under Redhat 8.0, I attempt to change some parameters of the file "php.ini", I attempt to test the workability of the new parameter, by using <?phpinfo();?>. However, the parameter has not been changed yet. Is it necessary to restart the whole linux server in order to make the php.ini work?

No, it isn't necessary to restart the entire server, but it is necessary to restart the web service....

It's probably completely different (different operating system and all that) but I found that I had to restart my windows system before the php.ini file would work. I tried to restart the server but that didnt help.
