oracle8 support in UNIX

I cannot get PHP to start with Oracle8 support.

I am using Digital UNIX 5.0 OS.

I installed Apache 1.3.26 and PHP4 with Oracle 8 support but when I want to start Apache, it just freezes and does not start.

When I re-installed PHP4 without Oracle 8 support, everyhting works fine.

During Oracle 8 installation, I remember there being various options to install web related libraries. Can this be the reason for this problem?

Is there anything I should or should not do during Oracle 8 installation so that PHP4 will work with it?

I would very much appreciate if anyone who has installed Oracle8 and PHP4 in an UNIX environment tell his/her thoughts as to where I am making a mistake.

Is your Oracle environment properly configured when you're building PHP? Ensure you have set ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, and, optionally, ORACLE_SID (although I always have this set to my "default" instance). If you don't receive errors during the build, you most likely have all the libraries you need to compile and link the PHP object file. What are your ./configure parameters?

A couple things have caused me problems installing PHP with Oracle support on UNIX (Linux in Particular). First off, I generally follow the instructions for linux on http://www.puschitz.com/OracleOnLinux.shtml

Next in my apachectl script that I used to start apache, with PHP installed, I always include following environment variables so PHP knows where to local for Oracle libraries:

export ORACLE_HOME=/opt/oracle/product/9.0.1
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib

Remember you may have a different Oracle Home directory than I do
