returning values to checkboxes

Hi all, im trying to make an update page where some of the fields are checkboxes. I dont really know much PHP/MySQL as i mostly dice and splice freebie scripts to achieve what i need.

Ive currently got an update page working for a calendar that pulls from a databse the subject, description and date of an event into a form that the user can edit. but there are a number of fields for an event which i want to use a checkbox for and whatever i do I cant seem to get the update page to pull up the state of the checkbox (eg, cbooked which is whether a coach has been booked for the event, whether i tick the box or not when intputting the event the box is unticked on the update page)

any help would be appreciated

as 1 for checked and 0 for unchecked....

then

$checked=$row['checkboxstate'];

echo "<input type=\'checkbox\' name=\'myvarname\'"

if ($checked==1){
echo "CHECKED>";
}else{
echo ">";
}

He forgot to put a space before checked... !
