Field data being reposted to check boxes

Here's my challenge, and this has stalled my whole project.

I have items that customers list in a database and each of these items has certain features.

<input type="checkbox" name="features[]" value="Upper">

These features insert into into a field items in a manner like "upper, lower, outer," etc all seperated by a comma. I need to make these items editable, therefore when going to the edit page, I'd like to have the items in this field parsed back out to the appropriate check boxes.

Suggestions?

If the features are always delimited by commas, you could use explode(",", $feature_string) to create an array from them then...

$feature_array = explode(",", $feature_string);

for($i=0; $i<count($feature_array); $i++)
{
print("<input type=\"checkbox\" name=\"features\" value=\"" . $feature_array[$i] . "\">");
}

I am assuming the $feature_string is derived from...

$feature_string = mysql_fetch_array($sql_select_feature));

Or would I have to include a while statment such as

while($string = mysql_fetch_array($sql_select_feature)) {
$feature_string = $string["features"];
}

that the features were stored in the database as a string, with commas seperating each feature. If this is the case, $feature_string is simply this string.
