Use PHP to create a txt file

Is there a way that I can create txt files using php?
If so, can I format it to a specific way?

What I am trying to do is have differnet people fill out the same style form. When they do the information is saved to MySQL. I would like ot then create a txt file which I will be importing into another program. So the txt file has to be in a certain format.

instead of outputing your script in a html format do so in your own format and changer header mime type to text and voila
