Apache 2 and win98

Hi, Anyone give me any help on installing apache 2 on win 98 as installed software and done the config file but apache is not running as a service and getting error 2185 sercvice name invalid when try to run in consol window, how do i get apache to run?when typing localhost in browser getting blank page instead of the apache page

Well, first off, nothing runs as a "service" in 98. Secondly, are you positive Apache installed itself correctly? Or did you build from source?

Hi, thanks for the post, you were correct, apache didnt install it self so found the error in the config file and it runs now with localhost 8080.
next bit of grief is that I cannot get php to run by calling a php file from the address line , nor any other file for that matter, the error says cannot find the file in the given directory even though it and all the others are in the directory.poss another blunder in the config file?

Glad to hear your first problem is solved. 🙂 As for the second one, does Apache give you any errors when it starts up? Like it can't find files or anything like that?

I have a similar problem with PHP, like markszy, I think. Here is an error I get if I do not comment out the line

LoadModule php4_module C:\FoxServ\php\sapi\php4apache2.dll

from httpd.conf.

Syntax error on line 173 of C:/FoxServ/Apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load C:/FoxServ/php/sapi/php4apache2.dll into server: One of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found.

Any help would be appreciated

Make sure you have copied all of the appropriate files to the appropriate locations. All-in-all, make sure you follow the installation instructions for PHP. :p If you are still having problems, by all means reply. 🙂

hi Dotwebbie, thanks for the help, got php info page to finally work, seems the apache files were not recognised by apache , I just retype in the Addtype entries, also by default Apache uses httpd docs folder for files, I tried re-directing it but got confused as to which command to use so dropped that idea and just used the default. after removinfg all my mistakes it now works a treat,once again thanks for the posts🙂
