Does anybody know what adjustments I have to make to the php.ini file so that my PWS can recognise the .php extension, I am on windows 98 SE 4.10.

I made this adjustment to the ini file:
extension_dir = "E:\php\extensions", and I've followed the instructons from the wrox book on PHP4 word for word.🙂

You need to delve into the bowels of the registry

Run Regedit.
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/W3Svc/Parameters/ScriptMap
On the edit menu select: New->String Value.
Type in the extension you wish to use for your php scripts. ex: .php
Double click on the new string value and enter the path to
php.exe in the value data field.
ex: c:\php\php.exe

Hi Barand

I did the Regedit thing and now instead of showing
<?php phpinfo() ?> in the phpinfo.php page it now
displays this message:
"Security Alert! The PHP CGI cannot be accessed directly. "
plus some more blurb about the
REDIRECT_STATUS CGI variable being set.

I uncommented (; removed) the "; doc_root =" (not sure
what I was doing there) and still the error msg showed,

got any ideas coz I'm starting to think HTML is attractive

My apologies.

I copied the regedit instructions from the install.text that came with my php installation but I've just had a look at my registry entry and it is

c:\php\php.exe %s %s

I'm using PWS on my W98 PC and have a alias 'php' which points to c:\php

If you like I can email a copy of my php.ini if you haven't cracked it yet.
