Simple string conversion question

Hi all, whats the function to use to make a string all lowercase? like
$username = lowercase($username)
?

get used to search proper documentation. i took about 5 seconds to get this information... and lost about 1 minute answering you...

Uhh thanks, I actually checked the documentation after about 2 minutes wasted waiting for an answer (saw a link to the docs in another thread). Don't forget this is a newbie forum =/

i know. i did answer because i know just how frustrating it can be for someone asking for help and getting a "RTFM" for an answer.

i did not mean to offend anybody.

but that was a very simple question, the documentation is excellent, and once you use it once, you just have to know without a doubt where to find what you are looking for.
