How would you parse this to nothing...?

Hi,

How would you parse this to nothing (including the new line)?
or is there a quick way to delete from "Version: " to the first \n ?
(where the numbers could be anything, for example it could be Version: 2.05... but it would always stick to the same format)

$line = "Version: 1.03 (2001-10-02 13:37:51 ISO)\n" ;

be more specific... what information out of there do you want to pulll ... all of it?

are you asking for a regular expression... read about [man]preg_match/man and also here: http://www.php.net/manual/en/pcre.pattern.syntax.php

1) w/o regular expressions. you could [man]explode[/man] it on a space to get the parts...

then work on each item ... might be easier than trying to teach youself a regular expression...

[man]explode[/man](' ',$string);

2) here is super duper simple regular expression... see if you can understand it... and maybe expand it to

$pregex = '/Version:\s+(.+)\s+((\d+)-(\d+)-(\d+)\s+(\d+)🙁\d+)🙁\d+)\s+(.+))\n/';

if you can figure out:
1) what a '.' is
2) what something wrapped in '()' is
3) what + means
4) what \s means

you can figure out how this works:

yep I wanna delete all of it.. but its with a load of other stuff in the same var so I cant do nefin logical like unset($var) ; hehe

for the rest i just did something like:
$list = eregi_replace("Author: [e-mail]\n", "", $list);
but that doesnt have anything that changes..

$row[3] = eregi_replace("\"", "", $row[3]);
$row[4] = eregi_replace("\"", "", $row[4]);

   echo "<tr>
              <td>$row[0]</td>
              <td>$row[1]</td>
              <td>$row[2]</td>
              <td>$row[3] of $row[4]</td>
              <td>$row[5]</td>
              <td>$row[6]</td>
              </tr>";
   }

which is the main body of the script,
its just a couple of things above the regular lines to parse which i am trying to get rid of

oh so you don't want to get the info... you just want to kill it

in ereg and preg expressions:

.

stand for 'any friggin character'

*

stands for 0 to infinity of whatever you specify

.*

means 0 to infinity any friggin things

so you would specify

"Version:.*$"

meaning match 'Version:' followed by anthing up untill then end of the string

"Version:.*\n"

meaning match 'Version:' followed by anthging up utill a \n

which is what you want
