Minor Date Subtraction Problem.. Help

The script below, is supposed to display the amount of time left.
But the only numbers changing are the seconds

// make the date a timestamp
$otstamp = strtotime($overdue_time);

// Get the number of seconds:
$seconds =  $otstamp - time();
// the number of whole days is the number of seconds / 86400:
$days = (int)($seconds / (60 * 60 * 24));
// get any remainder:
$r = (int)($seconds % (60 * 60 * 24));
if($r) {
     // the number of hours is the remainder divided by 3600:
     $hours = (int)($r / (60 * 60));
     $r = (int)($r % (60 * 60));
     if($r) {
              	$minutes = (int)($r / 60);
                $secs = (int)($r % 60);
     } 
			}
$time_left = date(d, $days) . " days " . date(h, $hours) . " hours " . date(i, $minutes) . " mins " . date(s, $secs) . " secs";

echo $time_left;

I dunno why it's not working 😕

I'm not just giving you a hard time here. If you want an answer, ask a question that can be answered. What do you mean by "changing"? That means nothing to anyone reading your post.

Suppose it never gets into the first "if" statement, where would all the variables get set? Did you echo the value of the variables inside the "if" statement to see what they have there (or if they ever got set)?

And what the heck is this supposed to do?

$time_left = date(d, $days) . " days " . date(h, $hours) . " hours " . date(i, $minutes) . " mins " . date(s, $secs) . " secs";

The date() function takes a timestamp. Whatever you're passing it, I guarantee they're not timestamps.

Sorry if this was indirect, I was in a hurry when i typed it up this morning...

What this script is suposed to do is, take a future date
(2002-11-18) and make it a timestamp so it can be subtracted
by the current date in timestamp format and then broken up into
days, hours, minutes and seconds that are left until that day.

What actually happens is, it breaks up the time left... but the time left is incorrect.

I don't know why it's not working how it should, i can't figure out the error in my coding.

$days = (int)($seconds / (60 * 60 * 24)); 
$r = (int)($seconds % (60 * 60 * 24)); 

$hours = (int)($r / (60 * 60)); 
$r = (int)($r % (60 * 60)); 

$minutes = (int)($r / 60); 
$secs = (int)($r % 60); 

echo  $days  . " days " . $hours . " hours " . $minutes . " mins " .  $secs . " secs";
