Filtering out integer passwords

I want to run an if...else when a user attempts to change his password. It needs to check to make sure that it consists of letters, although it should also allow a mix of letters and numbers - just NOT only numbers.

Anyone know how to do this?

try this:

if(!is_numeric($pass))
{
// password contains letters(or other non-numeric chars)
}

else
{

//password was all numbers

}
