PHP not recognizing MySQL

Hello again!

I have a linux box running Redhat 7.3 with default installations of PHP and Apache.

I just installed MySQL 3.23 from RPM (server,client,shared)

I tried to run a simple script to connect to the MySQL database to see if everyone was cooperating:

mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "password")
or die ("Unable to connect to database.");

?>

I get the following error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_connect() in /home/httpd/plantderived.com/WebRoot/test/index.php on line 3

I restarted apache after installing MySQL as well still get the same error. I'm assuming that from that particular error I'm doing something wrong.

Here is the configure info from the phpinfo()

I figured since there was a parameter with mysql that it would just work.

Any help on this would be highly appreciated!

I had the same problem :

In Redhat 8.0 - with PHP/MySQL and Apache installed

Loaded a page :
<?php
phpinfo();
?>

in the configure section it DID SAY "-with-mysql -enable-dbx", this ment that the typivcal "./configure... " answer would not work as it had been done - there was a dbx section that stated MySQL support, but MySQL section.

Also in /etc/php.ini (default in RH) the "extension=mysql.so" was enabled. So that wasn't it either.

try the following :

rpm -qa | grep php

look for "php-mysql?????.rpm" !! this contains the shared object that is needed. I had "php", "php-ldap" and "php-imap" only.

Once I installed this rpm (found it on redhat network to make sure I had the right version for 8.0 - I don't know why it wasn't on the CD1-3) I restarted apache

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart # in RH 8.0

And everything worked after that. To verify reload (reload - cached pages SUCK when debugging) the phpinfo() page and look for the MySQL section.
