I'm still learning php and thought I would create a simple 'magic trick' game🙂

Its not rocket science but has confused some of my friends so it aint that bad, if you get it straight away hold back dont post it straight away let other members think about it how it works.

That's an interesting little rule.
I know how it works. I dont' understand why. Do you have a proof for it or the theorem?

Can you do it in another base? Say 8?

That's pretty cool Mark. You had me going the first couple times I ran through it, and then I took a closer look. It's clever how all the power for creating the illusion is in the mathematical formula. The php required to complete it is really minimal.

I want to know if the same principle works in other base systems.

Like if the same principle will work in base 3 or base 8 or whatever.

I tried using the same formula with 3-digit numbers but it didn't produce a pattern that was simple enough to exploit. I think it would be possible to arrive at multiples of other numbers like 8, but the formula would have to be completely different (and it might not be as impressive to the average user).

the number you arrive at in the formula has a direct relation to the base you are operating in.

This base is 10, the last digit in base 10 system is 9.

I think it also works the same in other systems. For example, in base 8 I think it would work out that when you take the two digits and minus their sum from the original number, it would always be a multiple of 7. Because 7 is the last digit in base 8 system.

I'm pretty sure about this, but I haven't checked. I tried making a little script that prints everything out, but I have other things to do. I didn't feel like remembering/figuring out how to do subtraction and addition in other bases.

That's really awesome. I'm checking it out while I'm at work, so I haven't had the time to think to carefully about it, but I'm very impressed. It's guessed me correct twice!

Ok. fine there have been many posts about it.

The first two statements said:
1. Think of any two digit number (e.g. 35)
2. Minus the number from its digits, e.g. 35 -3-5 = 27

If you know simple math laws, you will know that when the above thing is done, the number is a multiple of 9 (9,18,27,36...)

On the names list all these numbers have the same name 🙂

Wonder what programming/code is required that people are asking for 😉
