Is there a "do not include" command?

I have a db with two fields: author & subject.

If someone writes an article, their names goes into 'author' AND 'subject'

If an article is written ABOUT a person, BUT NOT BY that person, then their name only goes in 'subject'

I want one table that has the articles BY the person, i.e., "Smith" would be in 'author'.

And I want a table that has the articls ABOUT the person, i.e., "Smith" is in 'subject'. But I want to leave out the articles with "Smith" in the 'author' field.

I suppose it would be someting like this:

FROM Table where subject LIKE 'Smith' and author NOT 'Smith'

or maybe something like:

FROM Table where subject LIKE 'Smith' DO NOT INCLUDE WHERE author LIKE 'Smith'
