working with directory contents

i get a parse error in /srv/www/html/cs/test.php on line 9. any help is appreciated. thanks. the idea is to read the contents of a directory full of pix and make put them on html pages in tables. nothing fancy.

the "while" line has a parse error and i cant figure out why. but i undertsand what youve done. thanks.

BTW you dont need to put in array to put in table

woudlnt an array be better if i wanted to break it up into more than 1 table ? or if i wanted a certain number of files in each table ?

you know what, that 'while' line is still causing an error for some reason. maybe its me ??

ok i got this to kind of work. it spits out the contents in a table (vertical 1 column) but it says $file_name insted of the actual file name. also, how would i make it spit it out 3 columns across ?

ERRR ! for some reason no matter what i do i always get a parse error that is impossible to fix. this time its on line 3..

With the exception of your directory path, I successfully ran the code before posting so it it should run OK.

Copy/paste the code from the message. I noticed that code you posted earlier was significanly different from the code I posted. This should prevent the odd typo from creeping in.

i copy and paste exactly and it still gives me errors. the reason the code i posted was diffrent from your was i had to do all the changes to make it work. i dont understand why it doesnt work, ive never had this many problems before with anything.

ok i got it. for some reason it woudlnt copy and paste, so i just copied it all by hand (what a pain) and it worked fine. thanks for the help.

now for my next question:

how can i make the output table stop at a certain point and a new table start. like say after X number of files have been processed, stop, make new table, keep going through the directory contents.

then the question after that would be:

or how can i send the output to a file or set of files (such as for each section of table based on the above, send each table to a seperate file) ?
