Universal download script?

Anyone have a reliable script that will initiate the download of a file (e.g. .pdf or .jpg) and will work on

IE 4+ NS 4+ and other relevant browsers?

PS: I've seen so many scripts that didn't work, please only reply if you have a testet, reliable solution.

Have you actually tried to look for one in one of the many PHP code libraries out there for yourself?

Yes, I have. If I hadn't I wouldn't be asking...

I have actually found some, but none of them worked on all systems.
