you cant as far as i know. the vars are there for a reason.. thought you might have known that.

Use POST variables. With session vars, you never know which page the user will visit next, taking those variables with him. You have to be VERY careful with var names and state etc.

Well if you know what they are by the time you set them in the link you can assign them to the session vars instead of putting them on the link

Well if you are keeping the session alive on every page on your site it really doesn't matter which has been clicked...as long you always make sure to set them to the needed values directly before linking to any page that will use them.
