help finding the appropriate function

I posted this in the database section as well, since it kinda pertains to both (at least the way I'm seeing it). But anyway. We've got a form set up to take in input from the user. No biggie, right? I can't for the life of me figure out what function to use to strip commas from an integer value in one of the fields before the value is written to the database. If anyone can offer some insight, I'd greatly appreciate it!
