determing netscape and internet explorer

I have a script that needs to be ran differently for netscape users and internet explorer users

as an example, how would i make it say "You are using netscape" if the user is using netscape, and "You are using internet explorer" if they are using internet explorer?

to pass a form with hidden elements to the browser to detect the settings and version and pass that back via an autosubmit...

How easy would it be to say on the site

"You are using netscape"

or

"you are using internet explorer?"

nevermind, just was playing with a script i made and got it to work... heres the simple and effective way to do it:

why not use Javascript... Its better in this case than PHP..

javascript would be running client side tho, to me, php is easier plus you can control it

well as Javascript is client side, its easier to get the browser. And in theory.. (my theory anyway) can be a little quicker than going from client to server -process - client...
