Eliminate horizontal borders of a table but leave vertical borders

I'm a newbie trying to figure this out. I'll prpbably slap my forehead when someone shows me how to do this.
I'm using an html table to show my results from a database. I am using alternating colors using php to differentiate the different lines of results. I know how to get rid of all cell spaces, I set cellspacing ="0".

My question is this;
If I just want to get rid of the horizontal lines of the cellspaces and still leave in the vertical lines to seperate the columns, how would I do this? I need to have the cell spacing on the bottom and top = "0" and the side spacing of the cell ="1".

This is the layout I am using.

No way to do that in PHP that I know of but creating a cimple css for the table should work:

thankyou so much for your help. I made the mistake though of saying I wanted to eliminate the horizontal table borders. What I should have meant was that I wanted to change the cell spacing of the table. Is it possible to have the horizontal cell spacing ="0" and the vertical cell spacing = "1"? I tried to incorporate what you gave me for the table borders into the cell spacing but it didn't work. Thankyou gain for your help.

Ahh, as far as I know, there's no way to do that sort of thing with the cellspacing. There may be, though. Wish I could be more help 🙁

perhaps I'm going about this the wrong way. I know how to use alternating colors to seperate rows. What I want to know how I can take out the horizontal cell dividers, but leave in the vertical ones. Or do I just set the cell spacing to = "0" and draw in vertical lines somehow to divide the columns. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The thing you are looking for is, as mentioned above, CSS, which means cascading style-sheets. And yes. You can change spacing, colors, width, height, position etcetc for any table cell. Please have a look at the CSS website (http://www.w3.org/Style/CSS/ ) ans specifically the specifications (http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/) on borders and padding of boxes (http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/box.html#padding-properties)

You can consider each cell of your table to be a box in itself. Keep that in mind and you should be fine!.
