flock

so im reading about [man]flock/man because i want to use a flat file for something that does not need a database....

now on php.net all i see are bad things about how flocking is done badly and doesn't work....

has anyone thought this also and came up with a different locking implementation in with php, or has it worked ok for you?

ive know that [man]rand/man is handled poorly... which shows that for this round, php will accept much less than perfection in some areas, is flock one of these poor areas?

Well, be fair; rand() is only as good as the rand() function C library used to build PHP, and PHP offers mt_rand() instead.

The only things I know against flock() are the manual warnings, and frankly, they're enough to make me nervous about relying on it, though if the system is POSIX-compliant it should be safe enough.
