Hello
I'm trying to get a database query NOT to do this:

type1
type1
type1
type1
type2
type2
type2
type3

and to do this (ie. to only list the differnt values and not ALL occurences of them) :

type1
type2
type3

i.e if there are rows with the same value in them it won't list all of the different ROWS it will only display a list of all of the different VALUES in like in the example above? Can anyone help please?.

You can use DISTINCT in your query e.g.

SELECT DISTINCT fieldname FROM table WHERE conditions

I think you want to use the DISTINCT keyword as part of your SELECT query

Lets say you have a database schema in a database table named People:

Lastname Firstname

Smith John
Smith Sally
Smith Joe
Kobashi Kerry
Jones Perry
Jones Sam
Williams Henry

$mySQL = "Select Distinct Lastname from People";

would only retrieve one Smith, one Kobashi, one Jones, and one Williams.
