htmlspecialchars and mail() function

I have usernames that have a ' (#039; ascii) in them.

when I use the mail() function to email them it truncates the username and body. The body has dear $user in it.

I have tried:

htmlspecialchars & eregi to replace the ' in the name. mail() doesn't like ' OR # in it.

Are there any other alternatives? Some of my users might have an ' in them, and I need that as an option.

have you tried [man]htmlentities[/man]

im not too familiar with the mail protocol

if you just need to escape the characters do something like

$body = [man]str_replace[/man]( "'", "\'", $body );
