FTP connecting

Hi all,

Does anyone know why I would have a problem connecting to a specfic FTP virtual directory but no problem connecting to the root ?
for example I can ftp_connect to www.mysite.com but not www.mysite.com/project_files which is the virtual dir I want to access as default.

If anyone knows off hand I'd love to hear !!

Connect to mysite.com and use function ftp_chdir();
