I am writing a report card database to print
a) report card to students &
b) summary report for class teacher to review the overall result of all the students in his/her class
Since the students have different subject combination, I cannot use a flat file (History, Geography, Maths, ....). I will create a score table (subject, term_mark, exam_mark, percentile) to store the term_mark and exam_mark. Then use the student table to link to the score table to build the report card.
Question1
How to calculate the percentile? Is there a built-in function in PHP or mySQL to do it?
Question2
If the student was absent from an exam with a 'valid' reason, then that subject will not be counted in the average score. How to implement this?
