Does anyone out there know why I can't get any of the filesystem functions (eg: copy, fopen, file_exists etc ) to work ?? either locally or remotely ( on ftp server, even though I'm logged in as an administrator )
Is there some PHP configuration flag that needs to be set in order for PHP to have permission to exec filesystem functions ????

I'm working on win2000 and have the relevant dir's shared to everyman and his dog...whats the story ???

try using a absoulte path, to a url ie
$pg = "http://yoursite.com/dir/page.htm";
fopen($pg,"r");

see if that wont work

No that doesn't work - and if I put in an absolute path to a file on my local drive it doesn't pick that up either...

Basically I can't get any filesystem functions to work - which is kindof screwing me up in a major way !!!

this is the error message I got when trying to copy a file from c:\ to c:\temp:

Warning: Unable to open 'c:\log.txt' for reading: No such file or directory in /home/myuser/public_html/test.php on line 40

paste this code in exactly, run it and see what you get

It finds the page all right - header: New Page 2, comes up blank with a grey bar at the top and when I mouse over it the status bar reads:
load: class ET_SubjectTicker not found

So at least its finding your page....what does this mean though ?!!

ok, well that means that it cant access my java fle for the news ticker, put if it got that it opened the file read it and closed it. try using a file system path eg. fopen("c:\inetpub\wwwroot\dir\page.txt","r");

see where that gets you

alredy tried that - doesn't work either...

I'm trying to read about security and safe mode configuration to see if theres anything there - but so far I can't see anything.

ok, here is just one quick question, when you set security of the dir, did you do it to the one you are trying to access, or to wwwroot??? you have to makesure tha anyone can access the dir that you are working with, not just the parent

Yeah nice one - that'll be iis - I say let child nodes inherit and it says - yes, and does NOTHing !!

For some reason some nodes didn't inherit and I was too stupid to double check by setting them individually !! bollox !!

Personaly I have MS crap. It is the worst software on the planet, and XP/2000 dont even get me started, You would think that all of the child dirs would get the security, but noooooo. We have to make the poor sys admin run all over the system changing settings. I had the same problem whe I just set up php, so I know how you feel
