I have a message board that I wrote in PHP that uses MySQL on the back end. I haven't figured out my purging strategy yet, so I wanted to get some opinions on when I should start thinking about trimming down the DB.
It has 6 tables, 5 very small, and 1 main one that is a little over 20,000 rows right now. I have it indexed properly, so searches have not been an issue yet. I backup the DB regularly, and it dumps to about 15meg right now. Is there a threshold that I should worry about keeping the size under?
If it helps any, it runs on a dedicated server, with 1.3Ghz processor and 512meg RAM.
Also, when purging mass amounts of data, is there something I should do to clean up the DB, I guess something similar to a reorg on Informix.
Thanks for any input.
