GIF resize

Hy!

After uploading an image I want to resize this image (JPEG,PNG,GIF) for thumbnails. JPEG and PNG works fine with GD-Lib. But, how to do this with GIF?

I already tried to call the Shell-Command "convert" from within the Script, but that doesn't work => shell("convert -geometry 84x125 origin.gif thumb.gif"); But this will work from the normal Command-Shell.

Does anyone knows how to solve this? Maybe an old GD < 1.6, which knows GIF. Please tell me then, how do I install GD < 1.6 and GD 2, because I also need PNG.

well the quickest way and has the least coding, would to just set the size of your img element, that way you wont have to alter the orginal, also, you can save a lot of space that way, you could even set that info in a dbase to get it out of there.

The only problem with that is that the use would still be downloading the fullsize image and therefore a larger filesized image than a thumbnail would be.

From memory i think most freeware graphics apps removed GIF functionality because of copyright reasons, so i think you would have to source an older version of GD, or convert your images to jpg or png format before uploading

But where can I get an older GD version? And how do I install an old AND a new version at the same time?

i am looking to be able to convert gifs or upload and resize the too.

not really. on the webserver (1&1) it worked, but local here it doesn't.

please let me know if you find a solution WITHOUT imagemagick oder programs like that...
