HTTP Response headers

I would like to capture and display (via html) the HTTP response headers that my Apache server is sending.

Being new to the PHP/HTTP world, I've gathered this much:
1) HTTP headers can be multiple lines
2) phpinfo() displays the default response (version, os, etc)
3) there is a header() function to send raw HTTP headers

Using PHP, how would I trap all response values my server is sending?

I found a solution that uses fsockopen(), fputs(), and fgets(). Other solutions would be welcome, though.

Not if PHP is running as a CGI ... :mad:

When PHP runs as a CGI Apache sends its own headers after the CGI has been executed. Therefore, your PHP script has no knowledge of Apaches headers.

You could however, have your PHP script request your page, similar to how a web browser would through PHP, you can then pick up all the response headers.

This can be done using the fopen() function.

Except that I want access to use HTTP Authentication ... but since $SERVER['HTTP_AUTH_USER'] and $SERVER['HTTP_AUTH_PW'] aren't available under CGI, I want direct access to the headers so that I can do it myself: that is, I want the raw headers; specifically, the Authorization header.

[rant]The more I think about it, the more I am starting to feel that this particular design choice is more "MSish" ("We know what's best for you."), than "OSSish" ("You are free to do what you like, but it's on your head if you get screwed"). [/rant]
