htaccess AllowOverride

I want to turn magic quotes on and off with an htaccess file. Does my Apache access.conf have to have AllowOverride set to 'All' for that to happen? I tried it, and it works, but I'm wondering if All is too broad, possibly setting me up for security problems. Is there a narrower, more specific option I can use?

Dunno for sure, but you can specify AllowOveride in httpd.conf on a directory by directory basis, if that'll limit the amount of folders/files you are 'exposing.' I.E., only do in when it's needed<?>
