Valid Date Function

IS there a built in Function that sees if a variable is a valid date? If Not does anyone have a function that checks a variable to see if it's a valid date?

Cool that will help alot... but i have another problem..that requires the date be month-day-year...where as MYSQL stores dates as Year-Month-Day so all my forms have the date as YYYY-MM-DD.

How do i convert the date from YYYY-MM-DD to MM-DD-YYYY to see if it's a valid date then change it back to YYYY-MM-DD to insert it into the DB?
